Off I go again

I haven't posted a photo up to now because I've had so many false starts with this project. I cast on the beginning 15 rows 4 times. It's not the pattern's fault. The first time I lost a yarn over. Second time I was interrupted halfway down a row and completely lost where I was. Third time I forgot which row I was on (got a row counter after that). Fourth time I just didn't like how it was sitting. But now I have finished the set up and one full repeat of the edging rows. The rhythm of the pattern has clicked in my head too. I really like how it's looking. The flecks of color in the Yorkshire Tweed dart in and out of the lace but you can't capture it on film. BTW - I would have done this in Koigu but it's almost impossible to find in Boston!

Finished!

Here is a picture of Maude blocking.

I did take a picture of me wearing it on Thanksgiving, but I look HORRIBLE in them so I'll have to try again. But, I've VERY happy with the way it came out. But I do have about 600 yds of Merino/Silk left over from this. Any thoughts?

I'm Maude-ing Along!

I started my Maude yesterday on our way home from Disneyland. (If you need more of an explanation than that, stop by my blog.) I have over 60 stitches in the center section now, and I just started my second skein of yarn. I'm starting to wonder if my Maude is going to be as large as everyone else's--it just seems small to me. Here's my progress so far!

Maude!

Finished and sproingy, Maude is complete. Photo can be found over on my blog, Spinneas Gauge.

Mammoth Update

After writing my last post about Mammoth Maude, I had a thought. Koigu is superwash, right? Check. I wash (in ze washer) and dry (in ze dryer) all of my superwash wool, Right? Yup.

So Maude and I went to the laundry room. 10 minutes in the dryer (I paced the whole time she was tossin' in there) , and she came out just right. Maybe a little tight (just a little, not much), but the sizing is PERFECT. Pictures will come later today, primarily because I need a second person to either model or take the photo.

One thought on blocking Maude: Pin her dry and use a spray bottle, rather than soak in the sink prior to pinning. Just sayin'.

Anticlimactic

In the not-so wee hours of a dreary, rainy Sunday, a lone knitter and her cup of coffee bound off a single stitch.

And Maude was complete.

She waited a day to block it, and then managed to totally screw things up. Maude, blocked, is gargantuan. That said, I have only a lone picture to show.

Close-up of the lace:

Because you see, Maude had to be blocked doubled over on herself, she was so big when wet (that should have been a HUGE hint). Maybe I should have just left her alone and not worried about showing off the lacy edge to Jenn tomorrow at work. 'Cause when I came home tonight, ran upstairs and unpinned her, draped her over my shoulders and looked down, I realized that her ever-so-graceful arms were dragging. the. floor.

I have to go back to the blocking board tonight (maybe I shouldn't have pinned, but rather just laid her out to dry).

Has anyone else had a problem with a huge Maude?

I think it has potential

I've done a very short amount of
swatching for Maude and I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm still on the increasing part but I'm so excited and think it's close to gauge that I'm tempted to rip it off and just cast on the real thing. It could all end in tears or maybe, just maybe, winged victory!

Update

92 stitches between the markers on the upswing, closer to the short rows!

My Maude is moving along swiftly, though life has put a small hurtin' on progress. I'm consoled, however, by the fact that in a short time, rows will become shorter and progress will be more apparent.

I wish the photos did the colorway more justice. Better pictures of the koigu can be found on my blog.

Just joined!

Hi everyone,

I think most of you are well on your way to a finished Maude. I've just downloaded the pattern but I'm having trouble finding Koigu that I like (or for which the LYS has 5 skeins). Seems like a strange thing I know. So, after rummaging through the stash, I've found a full pack of Rowan Scottish Tweed 4 ply in a deep purple eggplant color. Any thoughts on whether this would be a good substitute? I think Maude would look great in a tweedy yarn and that the tension wouldn't be too far off but I'm open to suggestions!
